is the clean press just as effective for shoulders as military press is?????

I think that the C&P is more of a synergistic exercise, so if you can do it right, than you can effectively hit legs, back, and shoulders. The Military press done on a smith is more of a concentration exercise, focusing on the shoulder alone.

Thing is if you're reasonably efficient with your clean technique (which almost no bodybuilder is), then the press is the hardest part of the movement.

So your shoulders still get just as good a workout, just you work a lot of other muscle groups too.

For most people though, cleaning takes up a lot of energy.

something that i found more effective is doin the shoulder press machine backwards. with ur back not being supported by the seat u will feel more of a burn this way. sitting foreward i could do the whole rack 200lbs with no problem and wouldn't feel anything on the shoulders.. sitting backwards with 140lbs my shoulder were screamin after 2 set of 10.. try it out..
