hey guys I had a question and I don't know if some of you guys have this also or have experienced it before. Well I'm training in split routines and when I do bench press I don't know why but for some reason I can't really do my sets right because I have trouble breathing while lifting weights... It doesn't matter if I'm doing light weights or heavy weights I still have trouble breathing Its kinda like if I'm running out of breath....IDK if you guys can help me out or have experienced this???

start off by telling us if this happens during any other wo's? does it happen during cardio? or even walking up flights of stairs. right off the bat to be safe i'd go to the doctors to talk to them about this, because as far as breathing is concerned you dont want to chance anything and risk not being able to breathe. do you have asthma?

You have to give a bit more detail. If I were bench pressing I would take a deep breath at the top of the movement and hold it. Lower the weight and breath out as I raised the weight.

If you weezing like you can't get the air in then see a doctor it could be asthma.

i can control my breathing to an extent, but the extent of my control means my sets have to be very quick and limited, but will on to get a decent pump.. n my break times are pretty long i guess
i have never really had these problems until a few years ago

breathing is very important, ESPECIALLY in lifting...breathe in through the nose when you lower the bar & breathe out through the mouth on extension...DO NOT HOLD YOUR BREATH like some do as it could be very dangerous...

^^^that & do more cardio & you'll be fine

Thanks for replying............. sorry about not being detailed I was in sports in high school since freshmen through my senior year and I played basketball and of course we use to go to the weight room and cardio, and this breathing problem didn't happen...and now that I'm out of high school I started doing my lifting in my house. I do my split routines which include many exercises(i.e. squats, dead lifts etc......) but only when I do bench press I seem to have this problem

It could also be how you're lifting as well. Some of the people in the weight room at my school get winded because of the way they bench. One of the coaches told him that he needed to widen his grip a bit because he was restricting his air passages. Being someone who was active, you know that if someone is out of breath, they hold their hands clasped above their heads to get more oxygen to their lungs after a hard sprint or whatever. Unless you're doing a close-grip bench press, make your grip slightly farther than you normally would hold the bar. It may feel weird at first and you might not be able to do the same weight for a few weeks, but you'll get used to it after the third time or so.
