i know this doesn't exactly fit the training section but i cant think of anywhere else to put it since sleep is where we do a large part of recovery from training

anyways i was wondering how many hours on average you guys sleep every night.

a lot of people i know can sleep 6-7 a night and they feel great the next day. when i sleep 6-7 hours i wake up the next day and feel like shit and keep feeling like shit throughout the whole day until i finally go to sleep again

if i sleep with no alarm clock i will naturally end up sleeping 10+ hours every night. during the day time, my body wont go to sleep unless i've been up for 17+ hours. seeing as there are only 24 hours a day, i spend 17 or more hours awake. this leaves 8 hours of sleep which is something i can live on...but more than often it's less than that. therefore i end up not getting enough sleep and after enough days it eventually builds up.

example:

day 1: sleep at 10 pm and ill wake up around 8 am.
day 2: sleep at midnight and wake up around 10.
day 3: sleep at 2 am and wake up at noon
day 4: sleep at 4 am and wake up at 2 pm

just wondering if anyone else has problems with their sleeping schedule

I had insomnia a while back REALLY bad. Now I can usually fall asleep at around 4 - 5 AM and wake up a bit later. I'm not a big sleeper anyway. I usually only need 4 or five hours of sleep a night. But when I went to the Doc, he suggested sleepy-time Chamomile teas, chew Valerian root, get more exercise, etc. But when nothing worked he put me on a series of sleep aids, but nothing would work long enough so that I would develop an immunity to it. So as a last resort he prescribed me Valium. It helped me a bit, but not long enough. The first 3 week cycle allowed me to fall asleep, but not stay asleep. The second 3 week cycle which I'm currently on now, is doing WONDERS. I can sleep at arround 3 or 4 am, and wake up at 7:30 for morning cardio then head to work.

i know u only need 8 hours but i think theres something wrong with me because sometimes i can sleep for 12-13 hours...

i don't know its something about my body...i have trouble getting to sleep...but once i do get to sleep i have trouble getting back up lol

whenever i only get 8 or less hours of sleep i end up exhausted throughout the day and i depend on caffeine....if i don't drink caffeine sometimes i fall asleep at my computer

Drink a glass of warm milk before you go to bed to get you to sleep, THAN drink 6 big glasses of water. It'll clean you out at night and help you wake up. Because if you don't get up, you're gonna piss the bed. And after like once, you'll never do that again. My brother used to do this. And look on the plus side, it's healthy too. It cleans out your bladder and urinary system and rids the body of toxins. Clear pee is better than really yellow pee.

Exactly. I don't have a bladder the size of Texas either, which makes me get up and piss. The milk is just to help you sleep, the water is an...alarm if you will.

Different people seem to need different amounts of sleep. Some people need 10hrs to feel good, others are happy with 4-5 every night.

Personally, I sleep about 5hrs for half the week, 9-10hrs for the other half. Just some of the joys of working weird hours on a semi-rotating roster.

Since keeping my jobs is more important than training, the best I can do is time it so that I squat and pull on days where I can get the extra rest.
