Hey all,
I'm having trouble perfecting my BB row form any thoughts?? I've tried light weight and heavy weight, I got a competition about 12 weeks away and really want to start working towards that dense stirated look in my back, any suggestions welcome.

Use an underhand grip! U can really feel your lats/back this way. Go from moderate to heavy weight.

You dont "have" to use an underhand grip...I can generate more power when I use an overhand one. Don't bend over to far, and remember to pull with yer lats and not yer arms.

Correct. I prefer overhand grip anyday.
Bend over so your back is in an 45 degree ancle, arch your back and start rowing.
And as Void said, use your lats to do the pulling.

As far as technic goes just practice.:)

Right, u don't have to do underhand, but it is a variant u could try. I like overhand grip as far as poundages go, but it's easier to cheat and doing the exercise falsely. IMO underhand grip is more strict and I can feel the back more.

-Grip bar (over or underhand, use both)
-bend down, ass back as if doing a squat
-arch back, chest out, head up
-pull into abdomen while squeezing shoulder blades (picture a snake crawling down your back, try to crush it)
-I also cheat SLIGHTLY while doing these to really contract the lats hard.

don't worry about being robotic with you're form, just as long as it's not horrible you'll be allright, i like to use an underhand grip with the E-Z bar, just slam that fucker into you're lower abs and squeeze and lower it all the way

I've recently seen Lee Haneys old workout video. When he performs BB rows, he does it like this
but even more bent over (90¤ angle) and standing on a box. When watching Pumping Iron, arnold and the gang also does it like that.
I tried it yesterday, but couldn't feel the lats very much. Any thoughts?

how the hell do you pull with your lats? I do these twice a week its all about just getting back in proper angle and squeezing the lats together.

When doing 45¤ angle BB row with underhand grip I feel the lats big time! Man, I don't understand back exercises. Everyone says something different, including every website, book and bb movies.

I guess bb rows are for middle back, but my original question is what is the right way to perform bb rows? 90¤ or 45¤ angle?

I lean back a little. But not to the extent of 45. I think 60-70 is ample.
