I've never performed Deadlifts before and i was curious; should i let the weight touch the ground after every rep before i perform another or just keep lifting without letting the weight touch the ground?

I'm aware of the safety issues with deads too, so i'll be working on my technique with lighter weights for a week or two.

Thanks in advance.

yes the keyword is 'touch'. you shouldnt just drop the weight, lift and lower the weight at a relatively slow pace

^^^Cosign. Dorian Yates believed that he didn't need to let the weight tough the ground because he felt it working halfway down his shins, But if you have to have it "touch" the floor to feel it working, do what's best for you.

If i'm in front of one of those large mirrors, I don't let it touch the ground at all. But If I can't, i'll let it just graze the ground so that I know i'm getting all the way down as far as I should.

It shouldn't settle on the ground in my opinion. Just a tap to know its gotten where it needs to go.

I have just started deadlifting again. I always place it on the ground between each rep. I am attempting to do them without gloves or straps so it allows me to adjust my grip if I need to and take a couple of breathes.

i do the dorian method as well...i find it funny how alot guys at my gym completely drop the weight after each rep...ive even seen guys do a rep..drop the weight...walk around for like 10 seconds..come back and do another rep..and then repeat the other steps lol

ya you dont have to touch the ground the dorian method is the best way..but if you decide to hit the ground make sure you touch it slowly and not hard..when you hit the ground hard the weight isn't forcing on your back anymore and it will be alot harder to get back up with the weight.

Thomas, do you mean that when in front of a mirror you look to see whether the bar is touching the ground?

Personally I prefer to put the weight back on the ground and let it settle. Sometimes I'll let go of the bar, stand up and resettle myself or re-chalk. Helps keep every rep the same and makes sure I'm in good position when I pull.
