Yep what he said.

Keep your focus on lifting progressively heavier weights with the big compound exercises. Make an effort to progress with squats and deadlifts and everything else will follow with them.

Get your hands on the "Brawn" series of books by Stuart McRobert. Very good read, all of them.

Progress

Persistence

and lots of patience.

^^^Agreed. Free weights build mass better than machines. Stick to the basics: Bench, Squat, Deadlift, Shoulder press/Shrugs, and Pull-up. After all, Frank Zane was a ecto, and he was Mr. O multiple times. Good luck.

Learning good form is the most imporant thing to do with free weights. Machines are really just one direction, form is made for you.

For deadlifts, squats and benchpress even you want to perfect form.

A begginer mistake is always not training legs and just focusing on upper body. If you don't train legs you might as well just stay home. (unless you have a valid reason not to).
