When doing certain workout, you suppose to reverse one grip and keep the other normal. Why do you have to do that?

You don't necessarilly HAVE to use that grip, it just helps you get a better grip in certain exercises such as deads or barbell shrugs, especially if your not using straps or anything...Is that what you were asking? Hope it helps some

It's called a hook grip, it makes it easier to hold heavier weights.

And you don't have to be such a kid about it, if you didn't like the answer, just say it in a mature way instead of trying to be a tough ass when you aren't.

Thomas, it's not called a hook grip. A hook grip is where you wrap your fingers over the top of your thumb. Hurts like all hell but serves the same function as using a mixed grip - it prevents the bar from rotating out of your hand.

A mixed grip is never preferable, but for most people unavoidable for deadlifts unless you use straps. My opinion is that for bodybuilding you should switch which hand faces forward for each set to avoid uneven back development.

So a hook grip is when the fingers around the thumb. And it make it stronger?

Yep. The thumb is the weak link with a standard grip, it's not strong enough to fight the rotation of the bar and hence your hand opens up.

Wrapping your fingers over the thumb stops this rotation, and hence stops your hand from opening up.

It takes a lot of getting used to though, it's quite uncomfortable. If you're going to try it, I suggest taping the end of your thumbs with athletic tape.
