i heard that the more often you train your traps, it takes away from your shoulder width

is this true?

i dont know where you heard this, but i cannot understand how training your traps would physically take away from your shoulder width.

Perhaps you might confuse that with if your traps are to large and overpower your shoulders you will look unproportional. It would give the illusion of being smaller. Second, alot of width in your upper body comes from width in your back and lats, not neccasarily your shoulders. yes guys blessed with wide ass shoulders are lucky, but for example, if you have normal shoulders, your back and lats play a big role in making you appear wider.

from a bodybuilding perspective shoulder width is about all i have going for me.......& i trained traps hard!

If your traps are too big, it gives the appearance of narrow shoulders because all the size is in the middle. If you don't have wide shoulders it's important not to over-train the traps. Concentrate more on the middle deltoids, More muscle there means a wider appearance.
