I read through and old thread about pushups and several of you guys said something about doing pushups every day...
My questions is whether or not this disrupts the recovery of your chest during the week after lifting chest during your normal weekly split??
I took a long break from the gym (moved and didn't have any $$) so I would do pushups 2 or three times a week...and I actually gained some size and strength over a 3-4 month period. When I got to the point where i was doing 650+ pushups...I joined the gym and started hitting the weights again.

If I lift chest twice a week in the gym...are you guys saying that I could do 250-300 pushups every day and suffer no effects of overtraining?
Set me straight guys cause I love doing pushups and getting a nice pump. If this doesn't cause a regression in my muscle growth I would be very happy!

The only way to know is if you do it. You can tell when your overtraining easilly. If you suffer from a loss of ability the next go around for chest when you usually don't then your over training. Take some time back in the gym to get used to it again, I know that taking even a 3 month break can set you back in terms of how you feel soreness in your body.

Say after a month you'll have a good idea of how you feel, how much you can go for, then add in pushups. If its making you do any less than normal, then don't do them.

No, not 650 in a row...
I would do sets of 25. I started out only doing a few sets and then I got to where I could keep doing sets of 25 until I got to 650-700 total. it got kinda boring after a while...
I would do them kinda slow with good control (no bouncing) and I would have a huge pump after I was done.

Hey LBJ...
What do you think about the daily pushup question?
If I worked chest 2 times a week, could I still do pushups without overtraining? I don't want to take one step forward and 2 steps back...

Yeah, it's good to be back in the gym!!

Unless your going for endurance over size and mass I see no reason doing that many pushups esp everyday.

Yeah, I wouldn't even think about doing 650 each day...or even 300+...
What about 100 or so each morning? I heard someone say once that, because the pecs are not used as much on a daily basis and are more likely to atrophy, it is good to do pushups daily in order to stress the muscle...and that it also helps increase bloodflow thus transporting nutrients to the area for rebuilding.
I don't know if this guy knew what he was talking about...so that is why I am wondering.
I don't want to work my a$$ off in the gym and eat right...and then NOT grow. So if doing pushups daily will help...I'm all in. If not, then I will not do it.

i agree with anarky^^^

if your not looking to pack on serious size quickly id leave them alone till chest days...but if your looking to maintain or train for endurance i dont see the problem...i personally dont do them, but its a personal choice.
go by feel bro, your body knows best

remember muscles grow when u rest most importantly bro. they wont grow if u constantly train them. but strength & endurance can still be improved
