my trainer talked to me about training explosive (maby sometimes i use wrong terms, im dutch so i dont know all the english ones)

but what i mean is when pulling up, you pull yourself up with enough speed to, when your allmost all up, let go of the bar and grap it again when you 'land'

or doing pushups with 1 arm but pushing yourself in the air and switching arms..

or when deadlifting you jump up (i know there was an official name for this exercise but i forgot: the name of it$ )

will exercises like this really help you get stronger or thicker or is it just for 'fun'?
thanks

I do jump-shrugs sometimes, that may be what you are talking about. Pull the bar up to just below your knee (using an overhand grip) with a controlled speed, then explode up jumping as high as you can and shrug your shoulders (the way you would when working traps). It's a good workout for gaining explosive power. Other than that, I agree the rest of them just sound like a good way to get hurt.

I found the idea of doing jumping deadlift kinda funny.

If I saw someone doing them I would feel like giving them a swift kick in the nuts.

doing any kind of lifting improperly can get you injured. If done correctly, explosive power training can be extremely effective. same rules apply just as they do in normal lifting, you must warm up properly, and you have to keep the weight light enough to keep perfect form. if this is done you won't get hurt. I still wouldn't recommend them unless you have proper instruction, however. you can think they look stupid, but jump-shrugs work. there are tons of exercises people do in the gym that look strange but still work, so all power to them if they want to utilize them.

Squats, dealifts, bench press, pull ups are very hard productive exercises. Explosive type exercises do put a lot more stress on the joints even if done in perfect form.

I can't see any reason to use them other than simply wanting to do these exercises for example the olympic lifts.

I would not recommend if your goal is just strength and muscle gain.
