The only problem I have with working out late, is what seabass mentions with restlessnes and sleeplesness.
I agree, that you should workout whenever you feel at your best & at your strongest. I'm a morning person - I can wake up, shoot straight out of bed without an alarm (which I don't use anyway) and be raring to go, full of energy.
As we all know, though, training (especially if you incorporate cardio in your session) raises the heart rate. It continues to be elevated for many hours after you're done. The benefit to morning workouts, is that you're getting the benefit of that raised HR (and associated metabolism) throughout the day. The detriment to training at night, is you're trying to sleep while that elevation is still present in the body. I could be mistaken, but I believe that there have been studies showing that an elevated HR/Metabolism during sleep, totally prevents, or decrease, or loses the beneficial effect of REM sleep.
