Okay, look at it like this: you're doing pushdowns, pushing down with your palms and your fngers are under the bar. When you get to the bottom of the movement (the contracted position), slide your palms back towards your body without moving the bar so you are holding the bar down in the contracted position with, essentially, your fingertips.
So to sum up: pushdown with your palms, and in the contracted position hold the bar down just beneath your fingertips.
