i dont now whether this was implied with the oblique crunches, but i find that lying sideways on a back extention thing and holding a dumbell in the free hand works really well
I put a pole or a stick behind my head and do twists. I alternate between seated and standing each day I do them. Then on other days instead of twisting, I do bends. I hear using weights when doing these exercises help, but I also hear that using weights when working obliques will make your waist bigger. Gotta just try it out and see what happens.
nice tips in this thread! going to try some of that stuff, i would just sit on the floor, spread my legs to a V and hold a medicine ball and twist left to right etc. helps with the abs as well
Oh and I forgot to mention, there's a also a machine where you sit with a pad on one side of your waist, and you choose how much weight resistance you want on the weight rack with a pin, and you twist to one side. Then you switch it over and do the other side. That was definitely my favorite oblique exercise. I remember the last few times I did them I was up to 90 pounds for 25 reps. It was awesome. Probably a good way to build up strength to take punches at your sides if you're a boxer to.
