I've decided to give mma a try in the next few weeks because i want to improve my fitness overall. Over the last two years training only in the gym i've made strength & size gains i'm very happy with but my cardio as been shot to shit & i'm down to a four pack(oh no!!!! )from all the extra eating. & i just want to try a practical form of martial arts & see how i get on.

My question is how best to spilt the week between 2 mma sessions & 2 gym without them negatively effecting each other to much, i.e i dont want my chest fucked from the gym when i might be required to do a load of push ups in a mma session the next day. So this is what i had in mind:

Monday: mma

Tuesday: legs

Thursday: mma

Saturday: upperbody

Any thoughts or ideas to improve it or better arrange things?!

Well. You'r going to have to see how you feel. You might not be up to working out even two days after you do your MMA stuff. AS with anything, your gonna feel really sore for a while as your body gets used to your MMA training.

So you have to try to decide which is more important to you overall, your MMA or your lifting. I'm sure you can get in both. You have to get used to the MMA first. Then you can try to feel out physically when you should be lifting.

Well Alot of people do both on the same day.
They do there normal workouts arms on certain days bench others. and so on.

but they lift either way before mma or way after. kind of like split training in a day.
So you dont have to switch anything up
Monday: A.m. mma, P.m. lifting
Tue:same
Wed:same
Thur:same
Fri:same

however you wanna do it. and if you dont have time then your way would work fine but id add saturday as a lifting day
cause most people in mma will do a
push,pull,hips and back days

and youd lift differentley. the most popular is curcuit traing. and just high reps.

anything else. just ask me

Thanks lads. I figure it's going be a surprise to my body intially as with anything new so i'm looking forward to it in that sense. Though i need to improve the overall fitness i'm aprehensive about having to easy up in the gym, i like sticking to 6-8 reps with descent intensity, i get bored otherwise, but ya wrestlingstalion, i have been told before bout higher reps & circuits so we'll see how it goes, it's going to interesting to see how my body reacts.

I'm starting it in two weeks(got my final (ever!) college exams first staring monday.... ) & then i'll give it another two weeks of the training spilt i had in mind. I'll raise this thread from the grave then & let ye know how i'm getting on!
