At the gym I see a few guys deadlifting now and then but they dont seem to lower the weight under control, like slowly. They more or less let the weight drop onto the floor. I lower it more slowly, taking the same time as I do to lift the weight. Whats the "normal" way of doing it? Does dropping the weight allow them to save energy for a few more reps?

yes, it does... so they kinda cheat... but in contests u are allowed to just drop the weight on a 1 rep max...

but u use the erectors more.. the problem is if u bend ur back too much doing them...

Deads are one movement that's a sure-fire way to F-up your back if you do it wrong, considering the normal associated poundage.

i lift it slowly and lower it slowly (approx 3-4 seconds) as far as im concerned, reps dont mean shit if you do the excercise wrong or too fast

good response kenney...deads just like any other exercise, u need to be in control of the weight at all times wether performing a rep or going back to base...whats the point in doing the exercise if u dont control it coming back down...if thats the case u mite aswell pack up ur backs n go home...

Whilst on the subject of deadlifts should you be able to lift more weight doing regular deads rather than SLDL ? cos I cant lift diddlysquat if I use my legs but I seem to get on OK with SLDL
