Dumbell or Barbell? On Dumbell, should there be any twisting at all? How high should you go when raising? I've seen some guys go all the way up to almost 3/4 of vertical. I've seen some do heavy to where they are swinging the dumbells. I want to hit the front heads (I usually do Arnolds, side laterals, overheadpress w/barbell, rear delts, and upright rows with this front lift). I am just wondering what is the best way to do front raises. I also wonder about sitting or standing. I know sitting would almost cut out any type of cheating. Last but not least, do you go straight out with the raise, or do you angle slightly out/in which means if you are standing with your arms at your sides and you move them up with the dumbell, do you angle your arms to the left nearer the inside of your chest, or the other way, or is straight out the best? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks brolys

I actually have used barbells, dumbells w/ 2 different hand positions and to tell you the truth I can't really say one is much better than the other. I would avoid swinging, especially on shoulder exercises as the rotator cuff is not invincible. I would try each for a period of time and see how your body responds. As far as height I go hands slightly above eye level, but I have seen pros go the whole way up and others go only to parallel with the floor.

You only want to go to parallel with the floor, any higher and your taking away from your delts and using your traps. As for Barbell vs Dumbell use both, try dumbell for a couple of weeks then try barbell for a couple of weeks to find which you like better. The benefit of using dumbells is that you can raise it slightly to the side or with a twist to it to hit different angles of the delts.

i am in the same boat... haven't found a big difference between the two.

i have used barbell front raises to exhaust my front delts right after military or arnold presses... gotta really concentrate on using that front delt. get to the point of the burn sensation and do a few more reps after... it'll get ur veins to pop out and extend across your shoulder striations!

dumbells are better. u can concentrate more on each individual movement plus one arm might be stronger than the other so at higher reps, the more dominant arm will take over most of the movement whilst the other wont be getting the full range of movement.
