finally ALMOST got this semester over with..and even though the new job sucks, i have my own office, and there are alot of good looking teachers at my new high school...so...it's time I get back to the gym after layin off all semester...

My question is how do/did you guys start out? do i just go balls to the wall and work through the soreness no matter the amount, or does the congregation have a better way to go through it.

I start Saturday morning, let alone trying to figure out a split and getting the diet under control....so i was just curious if to do a break in period or just get the iron up....

thanks for any advice might get thrown out...

Monday - Chest/Triceps
Wednesday - Legs/Shoulders
Friday - Back/Biceps

Thats a basic three day split. You can tailor your excercises around that. And now I really gotta go.

Actually I'd recommend saving up thirty bucks and buying Mark Rippetoe's book Starting Strength. If you're looking to pile on some mass and learn how to do all the main exercises properly, it's the best way to start IMO.

As for working through soreness: just start off with manageable weights and work your way up slowly. Eventually your recovery time will improve, but you can be expect to be sore for about 5 days after your first squat workout! If you want me to post the sample routine from that book I will.

If you are saving up for a book there are better: Supertraining, Black Book of Training Secrets, etc.

The main thing is getting in and doing the big basic exercises. Get the form right, and then ease into how much weight and sets you do over a few months.

I'll check out the books straight away..and thanks for the advice...

I think Mr. Rippetoe has a gym here in town, if I remember the name right, so I'll check that one out for sure, due to local loyalties!

thanks again

Don't train through soreness, listen to your body. Like others have said your recovery time will improve. Train smart.
