ok thank you for the reply
another problem with running though is that i feel it is putting a big strain on my knees. i am thinking about starting swimming instead because its still good cardio and doesnt put any strain on the joints.

If you are trying to gain mass I would not run or swim. Cardio/endurance activities are counter productive to gaining mass. You are working for two totally separate goals.

persistent running sends 'shocks' up your legs and isn't great for you joints.i prefer biking or skipping but not too much.i do 10mins on rowing machine,10mins on treadmill and then 10mins on stationery bike, then i hit the iron.the cardio is at a steady pace so i don't fatigue my muscles

My cardio includes the half mile walk to the gym. That's about it.

my cardio is riding my bike to school and back home
it takes about 30 or so minutes to get from my house to school, and this is at a good pace too.

Too much cardio, as said above by many of the knowledgeable memebers will sabotage muscle gains. I usually like to seperate my cardio and weights by atleast 5 hrs apart. But just keep eating, its how much you eat that determines how much you will gain. (75% of bodybuilding is about nutrition.)
