ALot of top deadlifters usually wear slippers while doing deadlifts. Recently i started doing deadlift without sneakers. without sneakers i have been a bit more succesful, since im an inch or so closer to the ground and do not have to pull up as high. People who do deadlifts, should try this, seems to help balance also, and your closer to the ground

Definitely. When I pull heavy I usually go barefoot. Honestly the best shoe I have used for Deads are Converse Chuck T's. Ugly, but effective.

I have another buddy on another board that swears by these Chuckies for his Deads as well. He went so far as to send me pics of them, and yes I can confim they are ugly

Yeah, you look kind of weird, and Christ they are ugly, but they give you the flattest surface to pull from. In terms of strength increases, there will not be a direct correlation, but your form and joints will sing your praises.

I hate the old converse but find that the more modern skateboard style shoes give a nice flat platform, a bit more support and a lot more comfort. They look a little better but still a bit weird in the gym. I can't remember what my current ones are but they look like a typical ultra padded flat DC skater shoe.

I wear a pair of Adidas Sambas when I deadlift and squat. They're indoor soccer shoes so they have a pretty hard, flat sole.

I wear a pair of my army combat boots. They are flat and give my ankles great stability. Heard that the Otomix are supposed to be good, but that is too much $$$$ for me!

Actually mine are airwalks... much better lateral support than converse in my opinion.
