Just interested if anyone knows how much weight exactly the Olympic bars vs the standard bars can hold.

For example can a standard bar hold 400-500 lb without bending problems and anything over that a Olympic bar is needed? ...

A bar isn't standard for what it can hold, its all down to how its made and how good the steel is. The average Standard bars start to have probs over about 250- 300lbs. Most I've had on one was 165kg (I can't be assed converting that so do it yourself) and it wanted to bow in my hands and it didn't bow in the middle.

The olympic bars are a different kettle of fish. Some are good, some are crap and don't hold anymore than the standard bars, others could survive a ICBM strike. Do some research into how the different bars are made. Largely ignore that load rating they give, thats static load and isn't akin to lifting parameters.

You can get varying degrees of strength in olympic bars. Whilst looking for equipment for our gym, one company does olympic bars which rnage from being able to hold 500lb up to 1000lb and above.

ELEIKO or IVANKO would be best choice I reckon.
Just look at footage/pics from the Olympics.
Thing is you can buy a cheap bar & set of discs for about the price of a very good bar !!!

I still use standard 1" at the moment but I have a bar 6ft8 with 1.25" circumference (like an oly bar) which handles well over 227Kg/500Lb.
