can someone please explain to me the "muscle memory" theory, like if you didnt workout for 6 months, you could gain back a lot faster because of muscle memory

yeah, the theory is that since you have already strethced out the muscle fascia(sp?) or something like that, then its mcuh easier to gain it all back.

I had been working out for 6 years completely dedicated and I was constantly at a plateau. 2 years ago I stopped working out for 8 months and lost muscle, definition and strength. Then I got back into it and 2 months I was back in plataeu shape. Muscle memory is real.

I have always been fairly torn on this subject. I could never decide if the "memory" existed in the muscle cells themselves, in that they have gone through the proccess of transcription, IGF release, etc., so much from muscle buidling stimuli that they are already adapted enough to do so again readily. Or if the "memory" exists in the neural adaptations one makes in order to gain muscle.

personally i think it is true, i no a guy who went from 196 pound to 130 due to a "drug-dealing argument gone wrong" when he started working out again he gained not all obviously but alot of muscle mass and strength in a short period of time, which could not be achieved by a new lifter in the same space of time

I think its true not muscles having memory but something is definately there if u have ever taken time off bbering u notice how quick u start to lift at ur previous bests

I played college ball at 275 (d-end) ...i quit an stopped workin out / eating / doing anything but going to class really ....an im just now startin to get back into it (for the past 2 months) an the first week i put a good 10 lbs ..... and now im back up to about 225 - 230 ....... but personally i think i look alot better as it has alot less fat around the muscle so i dont look as bulky but more definition.... so personally muscle memory worked cause i remember how long it took me to get from the 200 mark up to 230 the first time ..an this time i look better (and stronger) and it was alot easier
