i have really neglected my legs as ive been lifting weights...i mainly wanted to be strong and did not have a bodybuilding mind set...now i am going to start leg training and have a question with the barbell hack squat. I am doing the barbell hack squat because i do not have a rack at my house and do not have a gym membership. My question is will the hack squat help develop the quads fully, because i heard it mainly isolates the lower quads near the knee area. Thanks

your better off just doing regular squats or front squats bro. Front squats hit the quads more and you cant really isolate lower or higher portion of the quads that much so stick to Squats and Front squats and youll be fine.

Welcome to the bodybuilding mind set baby! Good luck with your progress and keep us updated.

He can't do front pr back squats because you doesn't have a squat rack.

So why the question, you got no choice, just do the hack's.

theres not much else you can do for your quads but the hack squats will do just fine, just make sure to go through the full range of motion and squeeze your quads at the top of the movement to really get a full contraction of the quads

I disagree. I hate that squeeze BS, why would make your muscles grow? And full rom on a hack squat? That's impossible

did i ever say its gonna make your muscles grow? no,i just find that squeezing at the top of movement ensures that your actually working the muscle, and every exercise has a full range of motion to go through

You can squat without a rack.

You just have to learn how to clean a weight to your shoulders. That will do nicely for front squats.

And you wanted to get strong but not do legs? Big fan of Muscle and Fiction?

just rep, don't worry about the squeeze, its worthless. Unless its some type of open fly movement then I could see that...but focusing on squeezing and not the actual lift can result in injury. You can try to focus on the lift and squeezing but you will come up short somewhere and wont recieve the full benefit of the lift itself. If you ask me, best way to work the muscle is w/o locking out....not locking out beats this squeezing b/s

He's right, cleaning and then doing fronts is great, but there will be a time that you can't clean the weight up.

@aefx Every excersize has a full rom to go trough?

So you do the full ROM of the excersize, but that excersize doesn't use full ROM, confusing stuff.
