Hey guys I've got a quick question regarding cardio. I have been jogging mountian trials for the past month and a half. Started the first two weeks off at 20 minutes, the middle two weeks at 25 minutes and the last two weeks at 30 minutes and saw great results. I decided to change up my cardio routine this week to HIIT. The only problem is that I have athletic indused ashma and I cannot handle sprinting for the required time in the HIIT program with out completely stopping for a break. My question is would walking with ankle weights for 40-60 minutes a day be a good cardio. I do not have a problem with jogging but I wanted to change it up so my body does not get used to just jogging for cardio and the fat loss stops. Thanks for you guy's imput. It is greatly appreciated!

Walking and a killer diet is all it takes to really lose fat - no need to kill yourself running...

You sure? I mean my diet is solid. I have been sticking to it religiously for the past month and half, cheat days every friday for dinner. I just feel like I'm not doing anything unless I am sweating and out of breath.

I'm the same way bro. And I also find its the only thing that works for me to drop fat. Some guys can do low intensity stuff but that don't work for me I need to be running on the treadmill or doing stairs for my best results, sweating my ass off. I think its cuz I tend towards the endomorphic, whereas a more ectomorph type person could get same results on lighter cardio

Yea, I mean and when I do sweat after cardio, I feel so much better about myself and feel and LOOK like I worked it hard. I'm glad you said something about running stairs, I move back home from college in a week and my old h.s. has a track around the football field and easy acess to the stands. I will def. incorporate some stairs and hippos into my cardio for sure. Almost the same as running but a little more intense. Thanks for the reminder lithium.

And fog, my stats when I started cutting on March 20th were 183.5 lbs, 20% bodyfat, 35lbs. fat and LBM of 148lbs. I am currently at 178 lbs, 18.5% body fat which is 32 lbs. fat and a LBM of 146.

Um, while agree with the walking and diet being great, don't dismiss the benefits of cardio work from running.

I'm not saying do 25 min of it, but a session of 5-10min of hill sprints (sprint up walk down) or intervals would do wonders for your body.

I wouldnt bother with the ankle weights. I think they are a waste of time. Like I posted in another thread...I'd mix things up a bit. Do HIT for a few sessions and also do some moderate stuff as well. Work in both the 65-75% of your max heart rate as well as the 75-85% max rate.

Do you use an inhaler before exercise? I have asthma myself, however, I jog indoors at my fitness gym. I do 5 minutes warm up, 1 min a little faster, another min faster, then run hard. The next minute I jog or walk according to how good of shape I am in at the time. I also use an eliptical machine to do HITT. Same pattern. I do not usually have any asthma if I do it the way I describe. If I run hard more than a minute, then my asthma will act up. This can turn into quite a workout. I think the 1 minute rule would work for you. You might have to experiment to see when you start to wheeze. Being inside, during cold weather, helps to ward off the asthma. I am sure you understand this concept about cold weather but thought I would mention it. Good luck, Rock

i jog most days, but i have started swimming on my lunch break, and i have found that it is fantastic for my body in cardio and all round toning. i take it easy, but just enough to tyre out. i suggest mabye one day a week try swimming and see how you feel afterwards.
