I will be coming to the end of one month on the heavy lifting program ive been on, where i just focused on buliding size, cutting fat and increasing srength.

Now my trainer wants me to powerlift for 2 weeks and then go on a 'toning' phase until i've reached 15% BF.

whats the benefits of powerlifting for 2 weeks before i go on to toning.

Im asking this before i meet with my trainer so that i can align the information and see if its the best option.

you say the programme your on at the moment is concentrating on building siza and cutting fat. Its not easy to do this buddy, your best chances are to train for a couple of months going for size and strength and then turn the cutting fat by implementing more cardio to your workouts. So in short the benefit of doing power lifting for 2 weeks is not really that great, id stick to lifting big and eating well and then after a few months try and cut up by increasing cardio and decreasing carbs slowely over the course of ten/12 weeks. hope this helps.

unless the 'toning' phase is just about diet, kick your trainer in the nuts for mentioning the word 'toning' tell him you're not a housewife.

What are your long term goals? what would you like to look like eventually?

If it were me, I would keep on a reasonable lifting programme, periodizing the reps and eating clean in order to build quality muscle. I'd also do 3-5 days of cardio a week...

In my opinion, bulking and cutting are really a diet issue and occasionally a frequency of cardio issue. Keep in mind, you will most likely not have abs this summer. That's ok, rushing things now or trying to shortcut now will hinder your longer term goals and gains. Plan for next summer and give yourself a detailed plan of attack to get there.

Good luck bro,

If the trainer actually used the word "toning" with a straight face you have the right to bash him.

Powerlifting for two weeks would be pretty unproductive, unless it is part of a larger cycle, where you would be continuously promoting strength.
