I've been looking at peoples logs, and the lat pulldown numbers almost all pass me. I dont know if its because I do do weighted chinups before hand and sometimes do pulldowns last (I change the order of every exercise every week with the exception of chinups). Anyway, My pulldowns suck lol. Anybody have any reasoning behind this or am I right to assume that the rest of the back work especially the chins hinder my pulldowns?

Thanks ahead of time.

Here in about 2 hours I'm off for a nice Tris/Bis workout (just thought I'd put that, I'm excited lol)

Well what are your numbers and what are you comparing it to? You gotta take into account their size too. I use 275 for pull downs for 12 on my last two sets. But I have focused on them for my width. And try to do them first next week and I bet your numbers will be higher depending on how many sets you do.

You want to compare an arbitary machine number with your arbitary machine number??

Machines will vary in their actual loading parameters. SO unless the logs have the make and model of lat pulldown included you aren't comparing apples with apples.

And also pulldowns are the poor demented brother of the pullup. Pullups are far more productive, and with chins should be the staple.

who cares about your lat pulldown you've got the balls to do chins so more power to you count the no. of ppl doing chins compared to pulldown and you'll see they do more pulldowns cause its easier
hard way all the way!!

I agree. I'll always do chins above lat pulldown, so that is probably why your pulldown weight is less, but like Tim says - there is so much variationm between machine and the weight you are actually lifting that the numbers people post is a complete irrelevance other than to themselves to see how they are progressing! The main thing is that it taxes you and you are getting the benefit from it!

I always start with weighted chins. I'll warm up with 25-30 unweighted, add a 25 and increase 10 pounds a set form there until I'm only getting 3-5 reps. I agree that chins are better no doubt, but I like supersetting chins with close grip pull-downs at a lighter weight.

dude the weight people use all depend on the machine, when i work out at golds i can use the whole stack 300 for sets of 10-12, when i lift at the powerlifting gym, i can only use 150-200lbs on the plate loaded machine. It all depends on thye machine, and your form, and what place u put the exercise in your routine. Just worry about contracting the muscle bro and not hwo much weight u use bc it will go up when the muscle gets bigger.
