Okay guys (even gals), I have a great opportunity to pull out ALL of the stops! Starting at the end of May, my spouse is taking sebbatical for 2 months! When she gets back, I want her to ask what I did with her husband! I want to have made such improvements that she makes an all-out attack on my body. Here's the scoop:

I want to make improvements in the following areas ( in this order):
1. Vascularity - I can see them in there, but I need to bring them out!
2. Abs - I have NEVER had very good abs. Well, they've been hidden behind a layer of FAT anyway! My diet will bring them out too, but I'm after max gains.
3. Overyall mass - I want to increase my mass as much as possible over this time too!

I am capable of some serious intensity in the gym. So, I am ready for serious torture. I will beat my body to the limits, but I need help to know where to stop! I cannot overtrain and render my efforts useless!

Here are some other comments:

1. NO chemicals! Don't want them, and couldn't afford them anyway.
2. I don't want to diet to the extreme that I affect my workouts.
3. I do have protien shake stuff. How much???
4. I've been working out for many months now, but have not put much concern in my diet. So, I've got some mass & vascularity ready to be revealed.

I don't want to let on that I'm doing this until she leaves the last week in May. However, anything I can do to prepare would be great. Actually, if anyone is willing to take me on as a "project", that would be great too!

I will post pictures of the "goods" after she leaves. I don't want her see me taking pictures of myself, and think that I was weird or something. Well, okay, maybe it is true...

Thanks!

Hey buddy.

Sounds intresting! But two months isn't all that long. You can't build muslce and get ripped at the same time and getting ripped without losing to much of your hard earned mass isn't a two week proces either. You can't expect to diet + cardio hard for two weeks and be ripped. So I think you should bulk till she's gone. Try to eat alot and still hard in the gym. Try to keep it as clean as possible though, since all extra boddy fat you put on needs to come of agian, something we don't got much time for!

I think cutting for two months would give you the results you want. When you cut down, you'll look much bigger and going from no abs to a solid 6pack would impress any girl!

Full credit to you for wanting to make these improvements.

For a start to make the quickest gains you'll need to base your routine on compound exercises to tax the most amount of muscles in each session. Train 3 - 4 times per week doing weights and 2 - 3 times per week doing cardio (on your off days from weights).
You mention about protein shakes. Take them to boost your protein intake depending on what your diet looks like. After working out and before bed are probably the ideal times. Maybe on waking up aswell.
Jorn has a good idea about bulking until she goes, plus it will make the transformation all the more noticable if you've got the extra size before she goes, and it will hopefully mean there's more muscle to strip down to once you start reducing calories, which is what you'll need to do to get that six pack.
Start reducing the calories down slowly and moniter how it affects your weight training and check the scales. You weant to be able to see the weight coming off but no so much you're losing too much strength as it means you'll be losing muscle size aswell.

Thanks for the great replies!

So, during my cutting down, do I still train like a monster? Or, do I go to higher reps? Sorry for the newbie questions...

I see no reason to go higher reps. This way you will still be training for mass using heavy weights. The only thing to be aware of is that your heavy weights may go down a little bit as it is common to lose some strength during a cut due to the less energy you have, so don't let it put you off!

I hate it when people say that. Yeah your right and all, bit if people don't know that some strenght loss in normal, they will do EVRYTHING to keep pushing the same weights and with that extra mindset, they usually can. Now when they're in the gym and things aren't going the way the like it, it's easy for them to say it's because of the cutting.

Depending on where you're at with you muscularity you could make drastic improvements. While you may not "bulk" way up you could give off the appearance if done correctly. Sneak a picture and post your stats. I wouldn't mind "adopting" you ...

Okay, I promise to post some pics, but it might not be for a little while. To give you an idea about my size, I'm about 5'11" and 210lbs. (i'm gonna guess 12-15% BF) I can ALMOST see my abs, so I'm carrying a bit more chunk than I should be. I'm workin on that right now too.

BTW, do I have to host my own pics here??? I don't want to have to pay for somewhere to post them.

Just attach your picture instead of using a host. Just choose the advanced option to reply and click "manage attachments" near the bottom of the screen. Also, post your current diet and routine so we don't cut too many calories right off the bat etc.
