You know like ronnies famous LIGHTWEIGHT, NOTHIN BUT A PEANUT

some people just hit the switch and go

I myself like to psyche myself out once in a while though. Eventhough flipping the switch and going is much more effective i find because it involves less thinking and more doing....But sometimes i just feel like i need all the help i can get so i psyche myself out by saying some prayers outloud. Other times ill develop fake tourrettes syndrome and swear my head off like im grudge fucking a rhino.
I seriously looked messed up all while trying to bench 200lbs

I pretty much do the same...it really helps when you convince yourself that whatever weight you're about to lift is in fact light...even if it aint!

Hi Bob Villain

Visualisation is an excellent tool in getting your mind set ready. If you have a psyche routine use the same one. This is a form of mental conditioning or routine to go through. Another one is to watch a routine of one of the professionals before you go.

With phyching up it is important not to lose focus. That is the point of the exercise you want to channel as much energy into the exercise as possible. There is plenty of material on this aspect of training and many routines can be used from it to maximise performance.

On the flipside if you are into the phycological side of the sport you can practice relaxiation techniques as well. Frank zane and others use these in times of recovery to build muscle.

I normally visuallize myself doing whatever lift it is. Mainly i do it with my squat and bench.

I just imagine myself pushing for those last 3 reps and then i do it.

I pace up and down and stare the weight out. I have to own the weight - not the other way around. I normally slap myself in the face on the big exercises a couple of times to get myself riled up a little. Then I just think about myself on stage and if I don't do this - then I have only myself to blame for railing, and thaty isn't going to happen!

I'll usually talk to myself, sometimes I'll pace or stand there and just act like I'm pissed as hell, then just grab the weight and go. I usually try to save my energy by holding still and just concentrating as deep as possible and telling myself "this shit is light, you got this"

From the corner of the gym where the BIG men train, Through a cloud of chalk and the midst of pain Where the big iron rides high and threatens lives, Where the noise is made with big forty-fives, A deep voice bellowed as he wrapped his knees, A very big man with legs like trees. Laughing as he snatched another plate from the stack Chalking his hands and monstrous back, said, "Boy, stop lying and don't say you've forgotten, The trouble with you is you ain't been SQUATTIN'." — DALE CLARK, 1983
