I see most people lower the weight rather quickly, but I have always gone down descently slow until my but will hit the stool(marking parallel). Me lowering it slowly will this do more for growth? please discuss, thanks

Anyway, in answer, speed is relative. What do you consider fast and what do you consider slow? For my part i probably take about two seconds on the way down...

, for having Steve Reeves in you avatar.

speed is reletive .. when u go eccentricly ( negative reps ) try to control the weights in slow to moderate speed .. never let the wieghts control u .. otherwise the load is too heavy for ur muscle .. after reaching the end of negative reps ( which is normally at 90 degree or below it ) push the wieghts as fast as u can but in proper control .. so u don't shake on top of the rep .. but remember .. proper positive and negative rep are essintial in every exersice

squat speed should be somewhat slower in general to nearly everything as you fuck it up and you're gone and wont be squatting for a very long time i htink its best to descent slowly and then explode up while watching ronnies squats i find that too fast for me its like hes so low but then goes up so fast i prefer to go slower just depends on how it suits you best and also prevents injury as much as possible

Hi Xtweak05

Before I comment I really like your sig
5'11"
165lbs
8% BF

Goal by August: 170-175lbs with bodyfat staying below 10%

August I start bulking!

Keep the bodyfat down Going slowly will increase the intensity. Because you are more time under concentric and ecentric load. I go slow in reps as well. A full range of motion is good as well. "As for will this increase more growth?" sure it will. But it is tougher than going with speed especially if you are contemplating doing a few more sets afterwoods.

xtweak05 - on a side note, you say you go down till your butt will hit the stool - is this actually what you do or are you just stating the relative height you go down to. I hope you aren't actually letting your butt touch the stool as this is a very dangerous idea as it can lead to all sorts of problems as all the stress leaves the thighs and goes into the base of your spine. I'm just checking.

i like to take the eccentric portion slowly - anywhere between 3-5 seconds. Only on warmup sets do I do 2 second negatives...

Just work your ass off don't worry about speed. If your lifting very f*ckin heavy

And you try to go as fast as you can on those heavy weights, you'll be going slo.

go down controlled...it helps keep everything tight. otherwise you'll end up w/ some type of knee injury like me

I still think you should get rid of the stool and use the mirror or partner as a visual marker, just seems like an accident waiting to happen imo.
