If you include a SLDL on your leg day, which exercise would you do first?

i usually did leg extensions then squats after. But im including SLDL every now and then in my leg day.

which exercises do u prefer in order with the squats SLDL and leg extensions; and of course i have other leg workouts included.

Thanks

Um depends.....

Are you looking to improve your hamstrings?
Are you weaker in the SLDL than the Squat?
Do you include other hammy moves like GM's, curls, RDL, DL's?
Is the leg ext to warm up or are you doing it to prefatigue?

If you want to include hammy work it really should rotate with squats as to which comes first. Some would see the SLDL as the oposite motion of the squat and therefore you should use roughly the same weight/rep scheme. If you haven't been doing any hammy work, then I'd put it first for a cycle.

I personally wouldn't touch a leg ext machine with a ten foot pole (let alone 10").

if i do sldl then i always do them as my first hamstring exercise
trained after my quads
if your hams really overpower quads which ive never seen but they can then do it hte other way around
or maybe you could train them on a different day

Hi there Xobile nice to meet you.

Well I have found Legextentions then straight to leg press extremely effective. I don't include sldl's myself but hamstrings have developed with leg presses. (eg the lower phase of the movement)

Squats are good especially if you don't have access to a legpress. The only problem with them is back positioning and the balancing part.

I hope that helps. There are many ways to train this of course is from my own experience.

Personally I'd only do leg extensions as a pre-exhaust method. I do squats first as I find these the most draining and need the most energy for, then follow with SLDL's!

I wouldn't say squats are a good exercise if no access to a leg press - maybe the other way around.

If employing a leg press aswell then have your feet higher on the plate to utilize more ham involvement. But between squats and SLDL's - this should suffice for most trainers.

kind of confusing me there tim. i dont really know all those things you are saying because, you can say im a beginner.

but yes, im lookin to improve my hamstrings, and my SLDL are pretty equal to my squats. and i do include leg curls.
and DL-deadlifts? i do those on my back day when i don't SLDL on my leg day that week.

Sorry I used too many TLA (two and three letter acronymns).
DL Deadlift
RDL Romanian Deadlift
GM Good Morning

What I am trying to define is what are you currently doing, how balanced is your current routine, and how strong are you at each?

If you were just wanting to know if SLDL's are a good exercise then thats pretty simple, yes. If you were wanting proper strength and development of the hammy then it is only part of the picture.

Hammys need to be worked with at least two motions due to its makeup. You really need a curl exercise and a hip straightening (SLDL, DL, RDL, GM) exercise to hit them correctly.
