alright i know yall are going to start cursing me out left and right!!!but to be honest i need help, not nicotein gum,or bullshiet but some wisdom!!!!i'm a victim of katrina(i know itz no excuse)since being stuck in the storm for a week with my dad i started smoking black and milds, now a few months later,i'm smoking them too much,my weight is about 155lbs,my workouts are greuling,i get the pumps and burns but then i smoke,i'm wondering if the smoking is stopping me from putting on mass??what are the effects of smoking and working out???and what happens if i can quit, how long does it take to get the smoking out of your system?

what made me quit was my need to run for more than a minute on a treadmill without running out of breath and needing my ventolin puffer.

its been about 5 months since ive quit and i can run for 30 minutes without using a puffer or running out of breath.

I'd say eating is what stops you gaining mass. Nicotine is known as an appetite suppresant, but thats not a big thing compared to not eating.

Smoking lowers testosterone levels, among other things.

It takes about a month to get over the physical addiction. The habit is harder though, as that can take years.

hey dragon, good question i was thinking about this same subject just the other day. i saw this guy smoking and when i got near him i realized he was this huge fucker i had seen in the gym on several occasions lifting massive amounts of weights. i was kind of shocked. but i remember reading in flex magazine that markus ruhl smokes as well. so i have no clue, but i plan on doing a little research on the topic. anyway you should quit, its just bad for you in general, definately not doing you any favors.

depends on what you're smoking... weed is good for putting on mass coz it makes you eat and then sleep! But it has side-effects such as - making you dumb, losing motivation for life (including training) and the possibility of jail time...

Evo (the bloke I train with) decided once he started training to stop and his cardio has improved no end. Increased lung capacity helps in both cardio and lifting, the more air you can get inside you the better!

Just quit man. And yes it can be easier said than done, but it's how hard you want to make it for yourself.

I read that it's easier to stick with giving up if you just decide to do it rather than planning to quit on a set date. Cos if you say you'll quit 2 weeks from today then for those 2 weeks it's like you've already started to quit and are dreading the day you do it. Just say to yourself one day "I'm not gonna smoke" and then take each day at a time! The difference in your training should help spur you on!
