so let me get this straight. If your progressively getting stronger, does that mean I now have new muscle.

For example, say last week I Incline DB Pressed the 90s for 6, and this week I Incline DB Press the 95s for 6, does that mean I have new muscle and have actually gotten a little bigger?

In theory yes. In reality, you may have just been a little more focussed on that day but if you progress regularly with your weights then it's safe to assume that your muscle mass is increasing - that's the aim of the game! :)

I'm not sure I agree here. The goal of gaining muscle is achieved by hypertrophy. However, you haven't described to us your sets and reps etc. If you are doing very low reps (below 8 IMO) you are mainly training for strength and are not going to grow as much as you are if you are training for size. Not that there's anything wrong with being strong (and it can be beneficial to go through phases of strength training so that when you go back to hypertrophy training you are using heavier weights)...

I agree to a point Fog_hat. It's about technique and the manner about which you perform the reps and sets agreed, but at the end of the day if this is in place - somone who can bench 300lb is gonna look bigger and better than someone who can bench 150lb if the execution and rest of the routine is correctly made, along with the diet etc. But I assume this is the point you were making, hence asking him what his routine looked like.

You got my point bro - I mean he is doing reps of 6, which while some may argue you can achieve hypertrophy at this rep point, I would disagree and say that he is working towards strength etc.

Its tough to say exactly, no guarantees that you will grow week to week with the scenario you listed, but if you go from doing the 95's for 6, to the 110's for 8, rest assured you will have grown provided sufficient caloric intake.

I've heard that reps between 6-8 are best for hypertrophy though. One good example is the 5x5 split, I've heard of people with great muscle and strength gains on this.

Not necessarily. Some strength gains are jsut neural adaptations to lifting. Improved recruitment of muscle fibres will improve strength without any gains. And as others pointed out, you may be coming in fresher and more switched on this week.

But over the long term then yes. Getting stronger will lead to getting bigger, as long as diet is correct (but if diet is off then you won't gain as much strength either).
