Do people neglect shoulders more than any other bodypart or something? I swear because the majority of people at my gym, say 75% cant press more than 45lbs. Some can then go press 65 on Flat Db Press for chest. My other conclusion is perhaps their front delt is dominate and helps them with the chest pressing and since the medial and rear delts are lagging theyre much weaker on Seated Db Press.

Personally my Chest Presses are almost even with my Shoulder Presses, 10lbs at most depending on which exercise.

What are your thoughts, discuss.

Ratios are arbitrary!

Having said that there are many goals out there that are considered balanced by %BW.
Bench 150%
Squat (parallel) 200%
Deadlift 250%
OH press 100%
BB row 150%
Chin/Pull-up/Dip +50%

Keep in mind that seated presses are easier and dumbbells are different to barbells. I believe DB's are ~85% of BB's.

i focus alot on shoulders......lmo people should place their ego more on training shoulders rather than chest cuz i think that shoulders r more center of attention and the weider ur delts r the smaller ur waist will look......

Me too. Based on 1RM calcs I have a bigger bench, smaller deadlift, and just under squat. So still nead to work on my legs.

Hell at one point I was close grip benching 150% and normal bench of 120%. So these numbers are really just a guide. Think they are from IronMan back in the day to emphasise the important lifts so that you didn't have people benching more than they squatted.

Nice figures to go by though as a guide.

Personally I'd never expect my shoulder pressing to be the same as my benching as the pecs are a bigger muscle and utilize more secondary muscles than shoulder pressing does.

I agree completely bro. As long as your chest is pretty well developed, accentuating your shoulders is a great move and definately helps to create the illusion of the ever-desired X-Frame. My shoulders were once a huge weak point but I read a training article years ago about how shoulders can start off stubborn and it turned out to be dead on. If you keep at it they'll eventually grow and I've turned that weak point into one of my strengths now.

However, there are rare instances when shoulders can be too big and I know BigBen is going to get on me for this but Flex's shoulders at the 1999 Olympia overpowered his chest in the front shots

EDIT: I think the reason someone stated earlier that seated presses are easier is because of stability problems when doing standing presses. Personally I feel I can stimulate my shoulders better doing seated presses whether they be with a straight bar or dumbells because I can use a good amount of weight and feel my delts contracting instead of worrying about keeping my body perfectly upright. Obviously they both are benefitial but I feel that since my goal is to build larger shoulders I need to be able to concentrate fully on them and not my stabilizer muscles.

shoulder is a primary muscle to train .. as fahad said u have to creat an illosion that if u have big shoulder then ur waist imaginary will be small .. also ur delts are 3D muscles .. u can view it from any side ( front - middle - back ) and IMO .. if u don't have well development on ur shoulders .. u wouldn't be call a true BBer

Thats odd! Says something abuot either how often you use DB's for working that muscle as opposed to BB's (neural efficiency) or says something about having a weakness somewhere that you can't get the extra out of a BB.

I found that I could DB OH press the same as I could BB (if not more) but this was more due to not ever using the BB for that exercise.

Didn't I just say that Flex's shoulders were too big at the 1999 O?
