I seem to be in a rut with my chest training. My other lifts tend to get better, but my chest seems to stay the same. I seem to feel it more in my front delts than my chest when I do bench pressing. Not sure what to do. I already use a fairly wide grip, so I'm unsure of what else to do to try to correct the problem.

Anyone else have the same problem, or have some ideas for a solution?

Thanks.

stop flat benching. focus more on inclines and some flyes or dips. i think in the past three years ive flat benched 3 times, and my chest seems to be growing just fine. i also feel it in my front delts too. flat bench has been the demise of more shoulder injuries than any other movement including behind the neck presses ( which is also garbage) hope this helps

Try benching with your back laying flat on the floor - use either a power rack or smith machine...

incline presses, db's, dips and maybe prefatiguing so you can really feel how the muscle should be working all might help...

that's always a good idea to do that for getting used to heavier weights and for breaking past the sticky lock-out point but I'm not too sure this is what he needs. I think q80's right on the money about startin with an incline movement if flat movements have always been the first exercise in the chest workouts...good luck

To emphasise chest do your normal setup but instead of just gripping the bar, try to squeeze the bar together. Do this while pressing and you activate the chest more.

Jep, good advice. And 'spreading' the bar works triceps more.

Thanks for the advice. I'll probably give the idea of focusing on the inclines more a try. I'll try to keep you posted in the workout log section on how things go.

I am curious - can you explain to me which muscles are involved in a standard bench press and at what point they are stimulated the most?
