Way down this road, in a gym far away, A young man was once heard to say, "I've repped high and I've repped low, No matter what I do, my legs won't grow" He tried leg extensions, leg curls, and leg presses too Trying to cheat, these sissy workouts he'd do. From the corner of the gym where the BIG men train, Through a cloud of chalk and the midst of pain Where the big iron rides high and threatens lives, Where the noise is made with big forty-fives, A deep voice bellowed as he wrapped his knees, A very big man with legs like trees. Laughing as he snatched another plate from the stack Chalking his hands and monstrous back, said, "Boy, stop lying and don't say you've forgotten, The trouble with you is you ain't been SQUATTIN'." — DALE CLARK, 1983

Why does it matter?

I wouldn't follow Arnold's routine any more than I'd follow Jay Cutler's. They are/were both doing something I'm not, taking steroids.

Does give you an idea of how intensely Arnie trained though.

Yeah Arnie is reknowned for doing tons of sets and being in the gym for hours, but like Tim290 says - that was Arnold - can't compare him or his training to a typical trainer.

Arnold had really good legs.

They just were not as big as peoples nowadays plus the fact that arnold had
a really big upper body which made them seem even smaller.

If you look at some pics of arnold he has huge calfs even for todays bb'ers.

But i think same as every one else,
if arnold "needed" big leg then he would of had them.

when he supersetted meaning he done one set of leg extensions and then straight away went and squatted one set for no rest
then he rested

ive read another logan
5 sets squats
5 sets front squats
8 sets leg curls
5 sets leg presses
2 sets 15 reps leg curls

if i remember right arnold done his leg extns and then squats superset to shock hi legs and they felt like a ton but that after a while it was easy and that he responded extremly well to that new shock

and arnold didnt have great les but they were ok for back then
i think at least thats one huge area where bbding has improved is leg quality

Arnold loved to superset pretty much everything, and yes it worked for him but I also feel he could've done other things that would've made his physique even more impressive. We've just learned so much more about training since his time, not just from science but from trial and error, and if I'm not mistaken even Arnold himself has said he could've benefited from less volume.

That being said, on a few occasions I've tried his five exercises, five sets back/chest routine where everything is supersetted...what a great shocker! I would not recommend trying something like that on anything close to a regular basis, but once in a while you just want to go into the gym and lay waste to yourself

Yeah, real bad. Intensity and that volume don't go togheter.
