Hey guys, right now I have patella tendonitis. The tendonitis occured, more than likey, because I wasn't working my hamstrings enough and it created somewhat of an imbalance. I'm kind of old school when it comes to injuries so I just take time off. But, I have been thinking lately will taking time off really help or am I just wasting my time? I say that because the imbalance won't get better by me resting but it will get better by me working my hamstrings 100%. I already know to change up my routine which I will do once I start up again. But what do all of you think?

Thanks

when ever your better, train your hams first in your quad workout. being a trainer i see people train there quads first all the time and then do one ham excersise at the end and thats it for hammys. EVERYONE could use better hams.

u will not get patella tendinitis from doing ham curls. ur not putting pressure on the patella tendon, ur stressing the PCL. stay away from legs for a week and ice up ur patella tendon. if u do legs avoid open kinetic chain activities, such as leg extensions. u'll only make it worse. do closed chain movements such as squats, leg press, etc. go light also. start to go heavy again once u feel fully healed.

You could either train the hammy's to the exclusion of quads for a while then go back to training both with more emphasis on the hammys. Or alternatively you could choose to train, emphasise hammys, but use exercises to train quads that also involve hammys alot (like lunges and stepups).

thanks for the comments guys....my tendonitis was really getting better and all of a sudden after about 3 full weeks off its starting to tighten up from time to time. I was gona start back this week w/ no quad training but I just want to stay off my feet as much as possible. Does anyone know if its normal for tendonitis to tighten up after a few weeks off? I have heard this happens sometimes but it just seems wierd to me.

Yes! Because you have been doing less, walking differently (I'm guessing but its likely), etc, then the leg will react. The knee really stiffens up if you don't use it. After my recon I had no flex in my knee and it has taken me ages to get that back.

So I'd keep doing light stuff to keep the knee working, especially through full range of motion.
