Used to do them a while ago place a dumbell on your chest and try it. (Guarantee you will feel the movement)

or

slow down the movement and static hold at the middle portion of the rep 4sec up 4 sec down

These are not the best excersizes to get abs. You should work your abs staticly enough in compounds, so if you're doing excersizes for them especially, don't do static's!

what is meant to work abs statically? ive been doing crunches because that isolates abs. ive cut back on situps and decline situps because i dont want that top muscle where my diaphram is to get to big and kind of like stick out if you understand what i mean. my sides under my rib cage above my waiste is skinny and i wanted to use this to build mass there to give a straight look rather than incurved.

try doing the plank on a stability bal and roll the ball further away from you with your elbows,u will definately feel that. As for isolating the abs dont spend to long on doing these kinda exercises as your abs will be worked already through big compund exercises.

I believe this is sort of a 'grey area' in training.
These exercises are supposed to create 'core strength' and maybe 'functional strength'. U may not feel a burn like cruches do... there are alot of muscles being worked.. abs, obliques, transverse, back and heaps of others. I dont think they help alot with visible muscles, bt maybe the smaller ones underneath used for stabilty. (and strength to some extent)
