I just thought I needed a change. I did it for over 3 months, with changing exercises here and there. I get bored with doing the same stuff over and over again, and I feel that my body reacted better to other routines in the past. I got good strength gains, but as far as mass goes, it was minimal. But that's just me, and maybe my diet wasn't spot on. Everyone's different so don't base your decisions off me. Good luck though dude, and make sure to keep increasing weight during the 5x5's!!!

Thanks bro. I like to give routines a solid 8 weeks to determine the effects. I've been trying to work on my diet, but i feel like i just can't consume enough and drinnk enough water. I supplememt with protein, weightgainer and eat like an animal (mostly clean). Good luck with your new routine.

I am going to post my workout shortly.

Alright guys killer workout today. I got some questions, but first and foremost, here's what I did today. Damn't, just as I'm writing this, I realized I forgot to do biceps with my back workout. Oh well.

Wide grip pulldowns
170*12
170*12
170*10

Seated cable rows
160*12
170*12
180*10

Reverse grip bent over rows (first time doing this one, not sure on my form so went light)
135*12
135*12
135*12

Rack Deadlifts
225*12
245*10
270*8

Reverse wide grip pulldowns (light)
130*12
130*12
130*12

Should have done biceps here, but I will for sure next time. Maybe I'll just throw them in on one of my cardio days this weekend.

So here's my question. In the beginning of the week, I weighed myself, and I was 198. I weighed myself today, and I was 203. Is it possible that I gained 5 lbs this week? I've been very strict on my diet this week and eating like a madman, some of which I wasn't doing when I was at home. Good this just be some beginner's luck since my diet has been so so the past couple of months? Whatever it is, I'm not complaining, just curious as to why.

Yup I agree with Mit, any weight loss or gain that fast is usually water. Who knows, if it would cheer you up ill say it could be three pounds of muscle and 2 of water, never know!

So whats up with the reverse grip bent over rows? Hmm looks interesting! Reverse Grip Bent Over Row Video & Instructions - Muscle & Strength Im not sure what proper form is but this guy looks not bad? Middle back eh. Id love to have a killer defined back but I have a hard enough time with regular grip bent over rows. Something about them feels weird to me, like im always doing them wrong.

Also how come when you say reverse grip on say these bent over rows it means both your hands reversed but when referring to deadlifts it means one hand reversed (really should be called semi-reverse grip or something)

First time doing rackpulls too? How do you like em? Ive never tried.

I've done rack pulls before, and I love them. The rack at my gym doesn't go down low enough, so I stood on two 25 lb plates, and the bar was almost perfectly below my knee caps. It was hitting my lower back directly.

with deadlifts it's usually your dominant hand is over the bar, and you're other hand is under the bar, if that makes sense. It just gives you a stronger grip if yours is too weak to begin with. You'll see a lot of powerlifters do that sort of grip. I don't do it because I want my back to look even lol.

Yeah the bent over BB rows make me feel weird. I've looked at tons of videos, but they just seem weird to me. Maybe i'll try them on the smith machine next time.

and yes islander, it does make me feel better to know that I gained 3 lbs of muscle this week lol

Yeah it is bro! Thats a nice gain in 7 days. The bent over BB rows take some time to get used to but they are a great workout. I think the best thing to do is just start out light and get used to keeping good form with them. When you get used to them you will love them. There one of my favorites for sure. Try doing them with different angles but not too far upright until you find your sweet spot (its like a g-spot LOL jk). My back has got very strong with them. Especially good to use in conjuction with db rows, imo. Your back will be very happy:)

If you guys have belts I'd recommend them on BB rows. Even with proper form, heavy weights on that exercise can be a huge strain.. you guys are smart and I'm sure you already know this lol just had to throw it out there.

i just finally bought a belt because i started going heavier on squats, deads, and BB rows. Great investment. Nike makes a really good one that uses velcro so you can really get it super tight for support.

Chicago is a large US city, there's gotta be one lol. Anyway, my favorite sports store is ****'s. We don't have one here in NYC, but i drove over the bridge to New Jersey. That store is gigantic. I could easily spend my savings account in there.

Question for you. With Layne's pwer/hypertrophy workout, would it be ok for me to switch hypertrophy back/shoulders/traps with hypertrophy legs/calves. The reason is after i do hypertrophy chest/arms my shoulders are beat up lol. Thanks for the input.

Yeah man, we got d ick's sporting goods everywhere here. That store is bananas.

Whatever works for you big man. My legs were usually beat up pretty good from the lower body power day so it was great for me to recover. Personally i would try and keep it the same, but that's just me

Ugh I felt like a weiner today in the gym. A big floppy weiner, that's super limp. I was barely pushing any weight, it was pathetic. My body has gotta get used to the new diet, and it probably didn't help that I got home from work, changed, and went straight to the gym. Oh well, here's my sad sad numbers

DB military press
75*10
75*9
75*8

Lateral raises
25*12
35*8
35*8

Bent over laterals
25*12
25*12
25*12

Front raises
30*12
35*10
35*10

Reverse pec deck
175*12
175*10
175*10

DB shrugs (to the front)
80*12
80*12
80*12

EZ bar curls
75*12
75*10
75*8

Alternating db curls
30*12
35*10
35*10

Hammer curls (did them with plates not dumbbells, kinda weird but liked it)
25*8
25*8
25*8

Calf raises
4 plates*20
4 plates*20
4 plates*20

Would like to do more for calves, but was rushed for time. Normally I wouldn't be doing arms with this routine but I was a big dummy and didn't do them yesterday. I'm doing cardio tomorrow. I'm going to go and lay my balooga assss on my bed and watch tv.

Damn your reverse pec deck is insane. You must have great posterior Deltoid development.

lmao I hate feeling like a floopy weiner. You made it to the gym and moved some half decent weight it looks to me. Some time new routine are awsome and go just fall right into in but some take a little adjusting esp when incorporating a new diet at the same time. Your awesome buddy!! lol Ive never called someone buddy before, I feel like Mike hahaha
