Does anyone here take Fish or Flax Oil for joint pain? I read some study that claims it helps lubricate the joints, thereby alleviating joint pain. My wrist has been hurting, so I was wondering if Fish Oil would help...
Also, I always lift with dumbbells and barbells, but I'm not sure it's smart to lift heavy today with my wrist hurting... I usually do barbell squats, but do you think it would be ok if I used machines today instead? I know that free weights are much better...
Thanks for any tips/advice!
Hannah :)

Yes, I believe that Flax/Fish oil would help. I take Flax Oil and Glucosamine. I had severe wrist pain in college, and saw several doctors for the problem.(due to squats and other various other olympic lifts) I have not had it as badly since I have been taking the supps.

You can also gain flexibility in your wrists(much like any other joint) I did this and it helped a great deal, it alleviates a lot of the pain once you gain flexibility. You can start(if you dont already do this) by pushing your fingers(gradually, palm facing the sky) back towards the top side of your forearm. You can also do the reverse, pushing fingers towards the underside of your forearm. I think that sounded confusing...maybe I can find a pic.

Like you said, free-weights are better...but using machines will still serve the same/similar purpose and are a better alternative than hurting your wrists. BTW?? Just out of curiosity, what grip style do you use for squats?

Thanks for the reply! Yeah, I was also consdering the glucosamine, but I've heard that the fish oil works just as well.
Re: the squats, I usually hold it behind my neck, resting on my shoulders. I also use dumbbells for DB squats and plie squats, etc...

Well, lifting an 80lb barbell up and behind my neck puts a lot of strain on them. I'd be afraid I'd hurt it worse, KWIM? I guess I could have asked someone to spot me yesterday... I guess I'll just find other alternatives.

Does your gym have a squat rack? That way, you wont need to lift it with your wrists, you can just get right under it. I assume you are talking about the fixed weight barbells?

B Sinning-- Yeah, I should. I just have too much pride to confess to someone I need their HELP.

Eli? (Eli80Cal)--Yeah, it does... usually, though, other people are using it... PLus, since i've NEVER used it before, I'm a little intimidated. I need to suck it up and get used to it, though, cuz I plan on going heavier...getting ripped :)

The other thing about a squat rack is if you lose the bar, the rack keeps it off your head. About you using 80 pounds, I would never comment on that. Weights are a means to an end. My best sets and workouts ever are when I dont worry about the weight thats being used, and just focus on working the muscle through its entire range of motion.

i take fish and flax but moe so for the omegas than the lubricating etc
try taking your hands out a little wider whilst cleaning the barbell to get it on your back
doing clean and presses my wrists allways made a sharp p[ain bringing the bar back down but taking the wrists wider made no pain at all for me now maybe that will help you.
