This problem has be ongoing for 2 years. It is not to the point it causes me extreme pain. What rehab exercises can I do to fix this. Or does anyone have experience with SI joint dysfunction?

My case may or may not be similar to you. I'm 41 and started back weight training in January. In March I started getting real sharp pains in my lower back, below the waistline. I had an X-Ray, MRI and started deep tissue therapy. Nothing showed up on any of the films. My massage therapist recommended a chiropractor. He did his exam and noticed that my SI joint was pretty much locked up, which caused inflammation, hence pain. He's been adjusting me 3 times per week and I'm seeing results. It's going to take time. I can already tell a big difference, especially on my right side (where the pain is). I was never as flexible on my right side.

Rehab? Stretching was never a thing I practiced. I do it religiously. He told me the way to prevent it in the future was stretching and maybe doing some core body stuff.

I hope this helps.

Hi Chainsaw -

I have had this problem in my rt SC Joint - It came to the surface as a result of doing clean exercises (clean and jerk, power cleans and hang cleans) - even though the weight was not too high and my form was good.

To address it I stopped all lower body exercises, the clean and jerk and standing shoulder presses for several weeks. I also have been seeing a chiropractor - which has helped - although I am undecided as to how much. I got 3 or 4 deep tissue massages did some good.

I have stayed away from any clean exercises but am back to doing lower body work (including squats on a smith machine) and it seems to be better. I am now hyper cautious about both form and weight when my lower back is involved.

I echo Redfisher's suggestion to stretch. If you don't already, you can try stretching your hamstrings particularly which I understand tie in right around the SC joint.

Finally, I noticed when I was squatting that my right knee would shift inward at a certain point in the bend. I am trying some orthotics out to see if they will help stabilize that. Part of the reason for the rt leg shifting is because my rt leg is a bit shorter, because my pelvis is not level, which gets back to my SC joint problem. So I am trying to be methodical and patient in correcting all that.

I hope you find a way to sort it out or at least keep it from worsening.

Cheers - Ky
