ok well
ice is good for recent injuries to the body.. ones that happen quick and cause your muscles to go into spasms or mainly just acute conditions. the purpose of ice is to slow down the amount of blood flowing to the problem area. ice causes what is calld vasoconstriction(the closing of blood vessels) When blood flows to the problem area it causes swelling and pain. So wat ice is doing is closeing ur blood vessels not allowing blood to flow there and causing numbness so you dont have to endure the pain. Only ice for 20 min on and 40 minutes of though at a time.. iceing for longer than 20 min can cause the opposite effect of vasoconstriction and all ur blood vessels will open up. and you will continue to have pain. ICE is considerd temperatue below 55 degrees. So make shure u have a barrier between flesh and your cooling method to prevent nerve damage or skin damage.
As for heat. Heat should be used for problems that you have endured for a long time.. if you pulld something and it feels stiff days later then you apply heat. Or if you have lower back pain. If you have a repeated injury that causes inflammation of a tendon or example. DO NOT apply heat. Because of hte fact it is a reaccuring injury. reason for heat is to reduce splinting and stiffness, take out the toxins in the muscle and open ur blood vessels to allow nutrients to enter the tissue at a greater rate.
As for your forearm it was deff probably just over worked. i doubt you tore anything. All the pain probably is, is just strenuous activity towards your forearm. think about it. using it during tennis and then lifting your constantly using ur forearms all day long also. ice it down. do some LIGHT stretching. ice again. and just take it easy for a day or 2 and you should be fine.
telling by pain what kinda injury you have? What do you mean pull or tear?
wella pull will cause your muscle to spasm and tighten up. and well a tear. youll really feel a tear and prob be in some excrusiating pain.
well i hope this helps i kno it is a lot. but its good to know these things. please dont hesitate to ask if you need to kno about anything else.. hope all is well
