During my workout tonight, I was doing shrugs with dumbells, first a warm up set of a 30lbs in each hand, when I experienced my right forearm go very tense, the whole muscle [if there are more than one muscles, they were all tense], like rock hard. My fingers were a bit numb, but I didn't really notice it till I was done with my set. I gripped my arm with my left hand, it was rock solid, not normal. I mean, my arms get a little veiner, but not rock solid. My left forearm was also hard, but not as much as my right.

It didn't hurt, so I didn't worry too much about it. I continued to up my weight, doing a 45lbs in each hand, followed by my last 2 sets, a 60lbs in each hand. After I was done, my forearms were still rock hard, but no pain, nor did they feel any more swollen then when I first noticed it on my first set.

I moved on to my other workouts, overhead military dumbell press, lat pull downs, etc. I got it all done, then started my 20 mins of low-intensity cardio [little cutting]. My forearms were still swollen. I stretched then went to locker room where I took my creatine in water, and came home. I just touched my arms now, and they're back to normal, flaccid.

On a sidenote, I just now flexed my arm, the forearm, getting it hard, but remembering back, when it was swollen it was much more tense, I can't seem to re-create the state now, leading me to believe it was some sort of painless cramp of some sort.

Did I experience to "pump" everyone raves about, or was this some kind of temporary injury?

Not to throw another question in the way but on one of my forearms my muscle is very sore on the crease. Especially when i do heavy weight and turn it inwards. Anyone else ever get that? Micro tears?

I think it was just pumped from the squeezing man.

Yea, you experienced a pump. Anytime you're going to train back or traps, you're going to be doing pulling motions, utilizing a lot of grip. You can get straps to help you grip so your forearms don't give out before your back/shoulders do.

Yeah, its just the heavy wieght really pumping your forearms/grip. Mine do it when I go really heavy on deads or shrugs. They get to the point to where they feel like they are going to explode and my hands are hard to clinch together.
Just have to work through it. Ive started taking a little longer inbetween sets when I know my forearms are getting blasted.

A lot of people have this. Mine acts up every now and then. Ive read that its tendon related. From what Ive read doing forearm strengthening helps to correct it.
Try doing lighter weights and hitting the forearms with french curls(reverse grip curls). Im currently looking into this myself. Mine only acts up when I go pretty heavy on curls, deads, or shrugs. So im going to pick a few forearms exercises and work on them lightly and see if it helps any.

When you build your muscle, you must build your structure also, (tendons,Ligaments, cartalig, bones) otherwise your setting yourself up for injuries. Its like putting too much wieght onto a bridge then it can support, it will fall down.

So the pump I experienced is a good thing? It felt really odd.

Unless you feel pain everything should be fine.

Bad way of saying what? I was reassuring him that if there was "no" pain in his forearm everything should be ok.
