Does anyone have any experience or knowledge about training a torn bicep back to as close to 100% as it was before the injury?
It's been about eight months since I tore it loose from the radius bone in the forearm and had surgery to re-attach it. I'm presently training (drug free) about three days a week, hitting biceps every thursday. Even though it's getting most of it's strength back, the appearance is nothing short of awful. It looks like a job for Synthol.
Thanks in advance for any advice or info!

Damn man, you should talk to your doctor and ask him if the appearance will stay like that. Someone I know had a torn bicep and it made his arms look really uneven.

Yep Tom, it's definitely uneven. I've heard of some top level competitors having torn biceps as well as other muscles and fully recovering, though.
My surgeon expected me to be off work from my job as a powerlineman for a minimum of 6 to 8 months, but since I returned after only 4 months I'm not in contact with him anymore.
The bicep can tear from one of two locations; from the shoulder or from the forearm, which is called a distal tear. The distal tear is supposedly the hardest to rebuild from.
Basically, I'm hoping someone who has personally experienced this type of injury will share some of their knowledge and/or training strategies.

Thanks

As far as the wayt it looks you cant do anything about it. I lost the tendon on both arms. I am not a bb guy though I powerlift. Your gonna be ok if you had the surgery it should look somewhat normal. I tore my first my left side when I took a shot in the elbow playin football, helmet to elbow. I wasnt about to miss the season with rehab and surgery. That was about 5 yrs ago. A year ago december I tore the right side dead lifting that was a no brainer my arms matched again no surgery. Year an 3 months later I am gettin ready for a lifting cycle of nothing but power moves. My arms are still over 18 inches and I am not limited. Both bi hurt when I do heavy pulls but nothing I cant handle. My advise if you had the surgery is be very careful of how you train it is very easy to injure that same arm because of the shortened tendon. Good luck.

Does it look like Matt Serra's bicep....He's a top fighter in the UFC at the moment for those who dont know. He tore it a few years back. The deformity is however permanent, and the muscle belly will not fully recover regardless of specific training regimens, in his case at least. He's up for the title next month though, so it didnt hold him back at all..

Only thing I can say is that Dorian Yates tore his Bi, which is why he switched to underhand grip for bent over rows, and if memory serves me correctly he did ok for himself.
