x-rays won't tell you anything about internal damage to the tendons and ligaments.

You may want to see a shoulder specialist and get and MRI.

I had almost the same thing happen to me, only mine completely dropped right out and my arm was down in my armpit. it's true x-rays won't tell you anything but if you can stand the inactivity it is the best thing for you until you are able to start rehab. I hurt it back in Feb. and am fully rcovered now, the only thing to watch is that all are different and i think i got very lucky not to have surgery. Be careful

It happened to me last week doing kickbacks, but ive had shoulder rebuilt twice. After a good rest of a week or so, if you still have pain, you need an MRI to see if there are any tears or damaged tendons- ligaments. I hope your gonna be okay cause shoulder pain stinks!

The most important thing is rehab, make sure to get in and see the physical therapist, and do everything you can to get back to normal. Ball and socket joints are the worst when it comes to re-injuring or rehab for that matter.

As the others said only an MRI will be able to tell you the extent of the damage, as the Rotator Cuff and the structures contained within do not appear on standard X-Ray. You may have been lucky and not torn your labrum in any way, usually depending on the direction of impact some part of it is torn. As the others said, seek an MRI, and regardless of the results consult a physiotherapist to point you in the right direction initially.

Broke mine and dislocated it playing football in college. It took awhile for mine to heal, and even once it healed, it would pop out of socket from time to time.
Mine has the collar bone sticking up, and the Dr, wanted to put a pin in to to hold the bone down,
I asked him what would it do? He said it was mostly cosmetic , but I would get 95% of my strength back.. I said, What if I dont get the screw put in it ? He said. You will get 95% of your strength back, but the bone will still be sticking out.
I did not get the surgery done and all has been ok except form the ocassional time when it pops out.
About 5 weeks ago, I was doing bench, and I got a huge pain it in, and It is still hurting to this day. I know I need to go to the Dr. to get an MRI done on it, so I will here in a week or two or three. Still hurts when it gets in a certain postion to.
I think it is my Rotator cup that is injuried now.

Good luck, hope you recover quick..
