I have just hurt my shoulder, I was doing incline dumbell presses and I got a pain shoot across the front of my shoulder and I dropped the dumbell, now if I tense it hurts or try to lift anything it hurts, I know its a bit hard to tell but has this happened to anyone else and if so how long did it take to heal I havnt got any upperbody weights until wednesday, is there anything to aid my recovery? I think il warm up a little better next time

could you post a picture and circle the area that it hurts? just use any picture, doesn't have to be you. if this is what I think it is, I can help you out and save some frustration.

since it hurt when doing chest movements it's, more than likely, an early sign of a pec problem. Lay off chest movements for 2 weeks and then when you come back take things light and do reps of 20 and see how it feels.

if there is no bruising try a ice pack or even some tiger balm oinment. that works for me. just remember to warm up next time. be safe.

sorry about your soccer team but your goalie was getting shook out of his shorts on those penalty kicks from portugal. and beckam's injury didn't help matters either.

If you have insurance and things aren't healing fast on their own, go see a sports doctor. The shoulder is very complex, and surgery will set you back a LONG ways in your progress. Some profesional guidance could save you a lot of pain and suffering.

Try applying ice for 15 minutes several times per day for a few days....... ice will decrease the inflammation. Also a few days later you can take a shower with hot water (to increase blood flow in the affected area) for 10 min and then apply ice for 15 minutes. It is simple and it work for me every time I use it.

if you dont feel better in a few days go to see your doctor.

also take easy next time you train!! you Need to use light weigh and high reps to promote recovery by introducing nutrients in the area carried in the blood. Push ups will help!!!!!

good luck

I've hurt both of my shoulders over the years, and nearly every doctor says the same thing...

Take Motrin to reduce the inflammation until you find out if it's muscular, tendon or joint.

Only ICE an injury immediately after injuring it, after that, heat.

Take a few days off, and when you decide to hit the gym do some light stretching and go easy on the weight.

I would suggest omitting overhead presses for a few weeks minimum to allow the area to fully heal.
Do lateral raises to the side and rear with light weights as long as you don't feel any pain.

If you're lucky it's just "irritated" and not damaged.

Whatever you do, don't ignore it. If you keep doing the movements that hurt, you'll be sidelined for weeks, months or for good.
