hey guys
ok here is the thing. i was doing shoulder today and was at 130lb military press. as soon as i lifted it up, a sudden bad pain on the right side of the neck. now the pain is located exactly where the attachement of the sternocledomastoid to the occipital bone. well that is where i think the pain is. there is no pain in the traps at all. a few days ago i woke up from bed and it was a slight pain in that same area so i think its from sleeping and now it a really bad pain. there is no pain when my neck is resting but only when i try turning it to the right. i have started to apply ice pack and see where that goes. i would love some input asap as this is not good at all. im really up set right now and dont know what to do. i have never had any problems with my neck before. thank you all!

try to rest up for a week...if it hurts when you work out then I would say to take the week off. Give it a week and see what happens. In a few days if it just feels stiff then you probably just strained something but if in 7-10 days its not better take a trip to the doc. I've had a couple of strained muscles in my neck and they are usually gone w/in 5 days...

thanks. this really pissed me off and i didnt even finish my shoulder training. for now im laying off most of the upper body untill monday or sunday. stick with training legs and just do some light weights with things that dont make it hurt. i am looking into going to a RMT if i do get coverage. i cant afford it so im sure theres a way!

Or you could just take a week off and let the body rest.

also , i think with that kinda injuries you use hot towel instead of ice pack.

update:
the pain is about the same. i hate alittle more mobility in the neck and im iceing it now and then. i will hold off upperbody work untill the pain is gone. if it dosent in 2-4 days i will go to the doc and get recommedations to see a sport therapist or something. i didnt end up taking any pain killers or any drugs for it as i hate taking drugs in the 1st place and the pain is tolerable.

it happened to me 3 months ago, it came training shoulder also. I took 5-6 days (untill the next monday) off of the gym and that was all. The pain was pretty hard but I didn't take any pill or anything (and didn't use ice...don't like the idea of iceing my neck/head, myself).
After 3-4 days i could move the neck properly, then pain went away and has never come back.
