So, I had pateller tendonosis which is "cured" through training high reps (30-40) and it has slowly gone away. But, every time I add weight I get this slight ache at the very tip of the bottom portion of my knee cap. And, it's towards the back side of the knee cap (it is not in the knee joint such as an ACL problem). When I rub the area it's somewhat tender but I would rate the pain or ache at a level 2 (doesn't feel bad at all, but it's there). Here's the thing, it only comes up when I add weight to my exersices but slowly disappears once I've trained 2 sessions or so with the same weight. Sound like anything serious? It's been goin on for about 4-6 weeks but like I said it isn't consistant. I feel it more when im sitting down and relaxed than in any other position...any idears?

EDIT: I also just recently took 7 weeks off because of injuries and I have been dieting down for roughly 18 weeks now. It just so happened that I had to take time off in the middle of my cutting phase. Just thought I would add this...

Are you using pain relievers, icing the knee after workouts?

It sounds like overload pain in the problem area. The original problem is almost fully gone but when you put the added stress there it just reminds you that its in the background. I was getting similar with my shoulder disslocation from the sternum, while healed for a long time, every now and again pressing exercises would remind me of it when I really loaded up. I've found that with the shoulder I had been using a shortened ROM on inlcine presses to guard the clavicle from stress. Not a big change in ROM was needed (like half an inch or so) to "strengthen the area" and it hasn't bothered me since.

Maybe something similar will apply here.

Good to hear that the tendosis has cleared up!

thanks tim. but, I'm still doing reps of 30-40. do you think it could still be overload pain?

Hard to say. I just figured with the occurance being linked to an increase in the loading.

Having seen the models of the knee, it can be so many things. Even just a little scar tissue can cause problems. This could be another likely candidate.

I'm using massage now to clear up scar tissue in my hammy that is causing problems (two tears in three weeks). Physios use manual and ultrasound for massage. Considering this is at the patella ultrasound would be best. Could be worth a shot.

Why don't you try some Hindu squats, a hundred dollars if you can do fifty of them in sequence! They'll fix your knees up real good.
