shin splints differ in their actual cause, two are overuse and one is stress fractures. Localised pain = stress fracture, general pain = overuse injury.
Icing does help a bit short term. Long term needs more info. Sudden increases in training/running, now on hard surfaces, physical imbalances, strength imbalances (like you pointed out), etc.
There are no braces, but orthodics can be made (don't bother with the store bought ones, they are crap) if there is some physical imbalance. This would be tested out by a pediatrist. |
