I have a friend who referred me to this forum who is somewhat of a body-builder who teaches me quite a bit about supplementing, nutrition, and overall workout routines.. but I have a couple of questions for you guys if you don't mind helping:
I am 23 yrs old, 5'7 about 162 lbs. I go to the gym 4 or 5 times a week. My goal is to just gain some lean muscle and look better. I used to weigh only about 150, and I have been trying to put on weight, which I have done. I've definitely gained muscle, but I've gained "mass" as well. I want to cut the arms and shoulders up a little bit, chisel the chest, and lose a little bit of belly fat I've accumulated during the weight gain process.
I eat pretty well (even though I usually have a cheat meal per day). My diet is mostly water, cottage cheese, oats, steak, sweet potatoes, whey protein shakes, waxy maise (in my post workout shake), eggs, whole grain bread and pasta, grilled chicken, etc. I also regularly take vitamin C, fish oil, and a Men's Active multivitamin from GNC.
I haven't really ever done cardio in the past because I was purely trying to bulk up. I HATE CARDIO.. but I'm willing to do it if it is necessary. I'm lean by nature and have a fast metabolism though, so it's hard for me to maintain weight. Do I need cardio in order to get the results I want? If so, when is the best time to do it and what should I eat before/after my cardio session? I looked up several people's workout plans (Ryan Reynolds to name one) and he basically has the same diet as me and is able to put on lean weight without doing any cardio. ...how?
Any help would be awesome. I feel lost. I also can't seem to gain much mass on my calf muscles either, no matter how hard I work them out. |
