Basically, I'm looking to start a new program. I was definitely considering P90X because of the results it gets, but after reading a bit more up on it, I'm not sure. I like that it really gets rid of body fat and gets a lot of muscle tone, but I don't like that it also gets rid of a bit of muscle.

I'm looking to definitely get more muscle tone, reduce fat and definitely get stronger. I'm trying to get a build kind of like Anderson Silva or something like that. Pretty lean (I think thats the word) but has a lot of muscle.

I want to be quick and agile for soccer but also pretty strong. That way I can do some MMA and things.

Was hoping for something maybe not as long as P90X (3 days a week maybe?) but I'd be willing to do P90X for sure if you think that would be the best results for me. I do some partying and things on the weekend and heard that alcohol almost negated the effects of working out if taken within like 24 hours of a workout. So, I don't usually work out sat/sun

Info

Age: 15, 16 february.

Weight: 140-150 pounds

Height: 5'11

BF%: 17%

Training Experience: Been in high school soccer, not entirely sure if it's training or not. I've been working out for a while but stopped during soccer season. Soccer just ended last thursday (22nd) and I re-started my workout but want to really maximize my results. So, I figured I'd get a new regiment.

I'm not entirely sure how much I can bench. I'd say definitely 80 pounds probably 100. My house at the moment only has two 30 pound dumbbells which I use to do some lifting. They really need upgraded, but it's hard to find a good bench/weights and everything without spending a lot of money. The 30 pound dumbbells seem challenging for curls though, which is good. So, if anybody knows of any good sets or anything and would tell me it'd be appreciated.

I also have a protein supplement, I usually drink like half 10mins before and half a shake almost right after my workout. Not sure if that's right or not, I've heard a lot of different subjects in my research.

Diet: None at the moment, but willing to diet and eat less bad foods etc.

My advice to you would first be to read some articles on training and educate yourself. Learning about different exercises and their proper form is essential to building a good foundation of both your knowledge and physique.

Search the forum for different splits (the way you break up your muscle groups and work them), and decide what might be the best for you. Right now, you probably have little idea about your body, what your recovery is like, and what methods are the most beneficial for yourself. Everyone is different and the only way to definitively understand what works best for you is to try new things. The way you pair muscle groups DOES matter, and you should research how working different muscle groups with one another effects your recovery and growth.

While reading up on these different areas, keep in mind that there are basic exercises that you should be performing in order to build a good foundation. In my opinion, a beginner needs a good foundation of compound exercises in their regimen. These exercises are the opposite of isolation movements, and work multiple muscle groups. For example, be sure to include squats, bench press, deadlifts, etc.

Finally, if your goal is to gain size, research DIET! Visit the nutrition section of this site and be sure to read the sticky on bulking. While training hard is a large portion of building muscle, you cannot neglect your diet. Once you read through those articles, form a preliminary diet for yourself and post it in the nutrition section. We can then help you through it.

Good luck, and ask questions along the way!

I don't think my real goal is to just gain size. I want to gain a very lean body but with a lot of powerful muscle. Want to have very little body fat.

I'm pretty sure after thinking about it and doing one of the exercises today that I'm gonna be doing the P90X plan. It doesn't gain a lot of muscle mass but it definitely looks to be pretty tight and lean. I figure once my body fat is pretty low (7-5% maybe?) or after the first 90days is done, I'll do it again but with more weight to get more muscle mass while keeping it tight.

I'll be following the P90X nutrition guide then, with a recovery/protein drink after the workout and trying to eat much better foods. Not as fatty things etc. Will be looking for good drinks and things though, so I'll see about doing a post in the nutrition section on that.

Anybody ever done P90X? It also helps me because they just use dumbbells/pull up bars, and I don't have access to really heavy weights, bars or anything like that.

Well if your looking to get lean p90x should get you there , but if your looking to gain strength and muscle I don't think p90x is the way to go, but defiantly diet eat good a clean foods! Your 17 % body fat so to get to 5-7% ain't gonna be easy but try p90x and see how that works for you and don't give up!
