Spoke to my mum yesterday, wrote on the shopping list : 20 chicken breasts, 1kg brown rice, 10 tins of tuna and 10 cartons of orange juice, she came in and asked what it was for, i told her i was going on a protein diet, she went crazy telling me i would be dead by 35 and that i shouldn't go on any diet and that i should eat normally, without my mums support i dont think i will be able to do it, i then told her i wanted to be a bodybuilder and she told me that to be a body builder you have to go on steriods which kill you, i am optimistic now on whether i should, i need help people, what should i do and how should i get my mums support.

No, you won't die. What you need to do is tell her "No Mom, I will not be using steroids, I want to compete at the natural level which is getting rather big now".

Just research information, share it with her, don't preach, exchange and inform.

introduce your mom to the dungeon and have her read the nutrition and personal logs on training that we take the time to post,
bodybuilding is not just about steroids, dang why is it that uniformed people always think that anyone who wants to build muscle is taking steroids,,

i`m 42yrs old, never done steroids, ate enough chicken breasts over the years to start my own chicken ranch, ate more tuna than a boat could carry, and enough protein shakes to fill a swimming pool, and yet I am still alive

You'll actually be healthier. "Normal" eating to most people is fast foods and junk foods.

Well that means that I have 3 years to live and Mike and Kaboom are already dead.

It is more than likely that a 'normal' western diet laden with sugar, saturated fat, and deficient in vitamins will actually shorten you life.

That said, your mom is worried about you and doesn't want you making bad decisions. She's coming from a place of concern not one of wanting to thwart your goals. I say break her into the diet slowly. Refuse to eat **** around her and be as healthy as possible. Then slowly add in a bit more protein as well. It's more than likely that you both need practice at figuring out what it is that actually creates muscle and a healthy lifestyle.

yes because lean chicken, lean tuna, Brown rice, and orange juice are worse then coolaid, burgers and fris, lol Seriously, people need to be brought into the light. Like said already get some FACTS and show her. Like nutritional facts of what your eating and compare to the nutritional facts of what she eats, she who eats healthier.

never good to do stuff without parents knowing, show her you did your research and really care about this instead. my mom was the same way at first with protein and "kidney damage". plus, no studies can prove you need in excess of over 1.4g/lb of protein per day (someone correct me if im wrong). so take your weight and multiply it by a safe 1.2, and aim for that much protein per day.

Mate, tell your mum that by becoming a bodybuilder you are becoming healthier. also tell her that your not going to take steriods

A sneaky way to convince your mum is to see if you can find some books/magazines/articles on natural bodybuilding and eating healthy and 'accidently' leave them out so your mum can read them

Agree with bodybuilding you become "Stronger, Faster Better" No pun intended, now in order to become stronger faster better you'll have to obviously be doing something healthy and right, now if you eat an excess of protein etc. it is good for you if your a bodybuilder...

But to wrap up your mums just being a typical mum and trying to watch out for you, thank her for her concern, but prove and show to her its a healthier and better lifestyle than todays lifestyle which is either

"Eat Mcdonalds till you drop"

or

"Dont eat anything and become a size 0"

Maybe you should tell her you are trying to eat more protein instead of saying "protein diet." That phrase may be spooking her.
